Hi Guys
I have an old (approx 8 years) HUMAX IRCI-5400 digital receiver. Just dug it out of the loft. Connected it up and all works fine.
My query is: I found the 'HUMAX transponders' on Astra 1, can I tune in and then go through the STB update process now? Given the STB is 8 years old, will the data stream or whatever still be valid/usable?
Thanks in anticipation.

- #2Answered incorrectly - hang on a mo.
Right: Update used to be on 12669V, 22K, 5/6 but I don't think that there's been one for yonks. It is possible to update via PC, including some interesting mods to the built-in CAM which I haven't dared but would like to. If anyone has simple step by step instructions how to render the built in Irdeto to an 'All CAM' I would love to know. - #3It is possible to update via PC, including some interesting mods to the built-in CAM which I haven't dared but would like to. The answer is NO as if you do your post gets deleted as I found out to my cost. - #4Not quite sure what JamesE amd Prontopro are talking about, It would appear I don't want to know either.
Still leaves my original question of:
Is my 8 year old Humax IRCI-5400 STB capable of updating from the Humax transponder on Astra 1?
Anyone know?
thanks - #5Sorry for digressing on your thread.
Depending upon which version of the OTA loader you have on your Humax, it will automatically detect if there is an update for your box everytime your box is switched on and you're pointing at ASTRA1.
You are better off visiting the Humax website and searching for the download of your box then manually installing it. I've found that the German HUMAX website is the best for software support (and its in English). - #6
The OTA loader on your Humax will automatically detect if there is an update for your box everytime your box is switched on. If it is unable to detect one then an update isn't being transmitted.
Surely it can only successfully detect if there is an update if it the Dish is pointing to the correct Satellite when it is switched on?
I imagine the Update Channel only exists on one of the many available Satellites, so if the Box/Dish are on 28E, for example, at switch on, not a lot is going to happen.
Edit: No evidence that the OP has a Motor and 19E indicated in his Profile, so apologies to prontopro as it appears the Receiver will always be on Astra 1 - #7Correct, and in my experience it does not do 'automatic' either. You have to be quite specifically on the transponder which I gave above, go into menu and update. As far as I know there have not been any OTA updates for yonks.
@Prontopro: The main gist of what I asked above was not for anything illegal, it is not illegal to use a multicam for the purposes of inserting legitimate viewing cards into it. It's just a lot handier to swap cards than CAMs. Now I know that you can also do other things to the 5400 built in CAM but that is another story. My request was for simple instructions to make it a multicam. - #8Correct, and in my experience it does not do 'automatic' either. I suspect that the Moderators deemed that altering the Humax Irdeto Cam to a Multicam was illegal, and I suppose they are correct as the software to do it isn't authorised Humax software. I think that's why my reply to your post was deleted, and I got my knuckles rapped.

HumaxTOOLit is now searching for it's installation directory.
This may take a while.
After that the Serial Ports are scanned for a connected Humax 5400.
Make sure you have your Humax 5400 connected and turned on.
When the Humax 5400 is found, the message 'Humax 5400 Found at /dev/ttySx'
is shown.
Otherwise the message 'Humax 5400 not Found.' is shown.
A configuration File 'humaxtoolit.rc' is written to ~/.humaxtools.
Now a Desktop icon is placed on your Desktop to start HumaTOOLit with.
When no connected Humax 5400 was found the Serial Port is set to 'none'.
When connecting a Humax 5400 later, you should set Serial Port to the
port you connected the Humax 5400 to, i.e. '/dev/ttyS0'
You can adjust the preferences at your needs and save them.
HumaxTOOLit is now ready for use.
